Flags will drop for the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 29, 2014 in Colorado Springs, CO.
The event, which is the second oldest motor sports race in America, is a 12.42 mile course with 156 turns and an elevation increase of 4,725 feet.
The grueling course elevations dilute reflexes and even steal 30% of the car’s engine power by the time drivers reach the top.

Colorado Springs’ Own Fred Veitch Hopes His Third Time On Pikes Peak Is His Lucky One
Colorado Springs, June 6 – Porsche of Colorado Springs and Road Scholars of Raleigh, North Carolina, announce their continued title support of local businessman Fred Veitch’s entry into the 2014 The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
“This will be Fred’s third year on the hill. He’s been very competitive in his first two efforts, so it’s great he’s coming back for a third effort ” said Joe Brenner, General Manager of Porsche of Colorado Springs. “He’s qualified well, and then snow and hail on race day held him back in 2013; we’re all hoping for clear and dry conditions this year!”
Road Scholars is nationally known for their high-end Porsche restorations. In 2011 they won the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours with a rare 1949 Porsche Gmund Coupe owned by the Porsche family. Their support of this race is a departure from their normal business activities. “Pikes Peak and Porsche have a long and successful history, since the first Porsche competed on the Peak in 1958” said Kevin Watts, partner at Road Scholars. “Fred’s entry is a pure “grass roots” effort, which makes our support even more exciting! It’s fun to support a home town entry, and we know Fred will represent the Roads Scholars and Porsche well”. “He’s a great ambassador for the brand, and the race itself.”
Veitch, 66, is the Vice-President for the Colorado Springs Norwood Development Group. He finished 17th last year in the Time Attack Division and 7th in 2012, his rookie year.
“Our sponsors have been great” Veitch said. “They’ve prepared a strong, stable car, and we’ve had a chance to do several days of pre-race testing with it already. The car runs and handles great, so we’re excited to start practice on the mountain.”
