This is the first time a Road Scholars restored car has ever been on the market – and what a Porsche it is!
This stunning 1963 Carrera II is the definitive combination of style and performance. When the T6 body 356 was introduced in late 1962, the 4-Cam “Carrera” was the ultimate road-going Porsche. Equipped with 130hp, plain bearing 2.0 liter engine, these 4-Cams where the ultimate evolution of Dr. Furhman’s legendary engine design. Proven on racing circuits all over the world and adapted for ultimate road-going, 356 Carreras are easily the most coveted of the 356 model.
The 356 featured here is 1 of 436 and in our opinion is the best color combination you could find: Slate Grey with Red!
We purchased this car for our client in 2007 and meticulously restored it to the pristine condition you see here. The chassis required very little work, as this car had spent most of its life in California. It was stripped of its undercoating, dents and dings; massaged and completely rebuilt and refinished. The body condition was similar to the chassis, having only suffered a bump and with zero rust issues. The body was sealed and epoxy primed, then block sanded again and again, checking panel fit along the way so there were no surprises once the final Glasurit paint was applied. The original trim was completely redone; all of the proper markings on the bright work are clearly visible. As one would expect, the finish is exceptional on all of the chrome. The correct type engine was done by an renowned Carrera specialist, so needed only fine details and a proper tuning upon its return to the engine bay, which features all original sound insulation. The optional equipment originally included headlight stone guards (not installed) and headrest.
As they say, “the proof is in the pudding,” and the finished product on this Porsche is exemplary. On its first and only judged showing, this Carrera scored 297.1 points (out of 300) at the 2009 Porsche Parade and won the Zeuffenhausen Achievement Award. In October of 2011 the car was chosen to be shown at the Porsche Race Car Celebration at The Quail in
Carmel California. This car has only been driven limited miles since the completion of the restoration.
Road Scholars is pleased to offer simply one of the finest Carreras to come to market.
