The 964 RS is simply one of our favorites to get behind the wheel and drive.
Porsches in the early 1990s didn’t have all the systems required now and the
cars were smaller, thus the cockpit for the stripped-out Carrera 2 feels downright
intimate. Creature comforts were options, carrying on the Rennsport legacy
inspired by the 1973 RS 2.7 and 1974 RS 3.0 models. This RS is equipped with
the M64/03 engine, which was a revision of the standard 3.6-liter flat-six; it
develops 260 brake horsepower while weighing almost 350 pounds less than the
standard Carrera 2.

Nearly 2,000 RoW examples were built, but due to America’s stringent
emissions, we were deprived of these models. A few slipped in over the years,
and surely now, after the 25th birthday of the 964RS, they are trickling in.
Certainly, this car is collectible as an RS, but it’s hard to envision the 964RS
valued near the other lower-production RS models. Settling into a nice price
point, no matter how you slice it, the 964RS is a must in any important RS
collection and one of the best 911 driving experiences one can have.

Chassis 490667 was imported from Japan a few years ago, it then received a full respray in its factory color before being sold at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction in 2017. Late last year, we sourced it for a local client here in Durham, NC. He enjoyed it for a little over
1,000 kilometers before deciding to make a move out of the country. That is the
only reason it’s back in inventory and up for grabs.

Pay close attention to the engine photos. See anything out of the norm for a non-
RS Touring model? Yes, that’s right, A/C! We recently completed this air
conditioning installation using all factory Carrera components. It’s fully serviced
and ready to rip; chassis 490667 is a “cool” RS to drive the wheels off!
