Meet Road Scholars New General Manager – Phil Whitehead

Phils Grandfather Thomas Whitehead in 1915 with Edsel Ford.

I was born to be in the car business. My grandfather drove across the country in a 1915 Ford Model T with Edsel Ford. My parents met in Flint, Michigan, while my dad was an engineering student at General Motors Institute. And I grew up in Detroit during the golden age of American muscle cars.

I’m a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. While there, I had the great privilege of working for Bo Schembechler and the Michigan Wolverines football team. I learned a lot about leadership and championship thinking from one of the great legends of college football.

I started in the retail automotive business in 1995 selling Jaguars, Land Rovers, and Audis. I started selling Porsches in 1996 and worked with a guy by the name of Kevin Watts in the late ‘90s. They say you never forget your first love. The first Porsche I ever sold was a white 1997 911 Carrera Cabriolet.

I was the general manager at Porsche Southpoint since its inception in 2015. The store earned Porsche Premier Dealer honors, awarded to the top 25 dealers in the US, for 2017 and 2018. I wanted to come to Road Scholars so I could work with The Premiere Porsche Dealer.
