It’s beginning to look a lot like another year is drawing to a close. We hear from friends around the country who are taking one last long-weekend drive in their favorite Porsche before they put it away for the snow and salt season.

Our contributor Sean Smith did exactly that, taking his own weekend drive for this issue with a romp in a GT3 RS from his home in New York up into Vermont for leaf peeping and twisty-road enjoyment. From Smith’s sublime run up Mount Equinox in luscious fall color, we offer a counterpoint with Sean Cridland’s examination of a truly wonderful 356 in ultra-vivid SoCal, in a car “revised” by its inventive owner into something of a marvel. The Hula Girl (above) is part of his aesthetic.

For those local to our “world headquarters” in Durham, we hope you were among those who joined us at our official Grand Opening on October 15th.

Because the gift-giving holidays are approaching, we’ve brought you a few recently published books to think about for yourself or other car enthusiasts. We’ll have another round next month in our December issue.

Finally, we bring you up-to-date on another round of auctions where Porsches either barely appeared or else they made up the entire catalog. For those who felt Monterey’s prices were a letdown, take a look at what Bonhams and RM Sotheby achieved. These cars are special pieces, as compared to the much larger Silverstone auction, as part of Porsche Club Great Britain, for which sale prices reflect values of “used cars.”

Meanwhile, get out there and go for a drive. Blow the carbon and cobwebs out of your engines and your brains before we all settle down for a long winter’s nap.
