At Monterey, there were more than 150 Porsches available from the five auction companies active that weekend. Study the results carefully. Compare estimates with sales results. Those who have been paying attention during the past five years have spotted trends. Those who are paying attention now may be  – with some houses – scratching their heads.

Why does…? Wait! How come…? And if those guys got this much…why did these guys get that much?

If you read this carefully, there are lessons to be learned as far as sales price estimate, car quality, and…what sold and what did not.

Car quality and supporting history and paperwork constitute the supreme leveling invluences. It’s fine that every single house offers a 930 Turbo or a 959. Some sell, some don’t. As our guest commentator Kevin Watts has said – since the founding of this magazine – be sure you understand the meaning of the Latin term Caveat Emptor – buyer beware for those who have forgotten.

Remember, too, Cam Ingram’s comments two years ago about how Road Scholars, our parent and publisher, loves those who buy at auction because those cars comes to Road Scholars to make them…run…right….

Perhaps, someday, there may be questions to be asked: Questions to consignors. And..well, questions to…others. In the meantime, Evolve diligenter as Latin scholars would say. For those of us closer to modern times, translate that as: study carefully.
