Giant Killer to Giant: How Porsche went from class win to winning overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Today Porsche and endurance racing go hand in hand, the manufacturer having won overall 19 times at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the ultimate sports car endurance race. In celebration of the company’s 75th anniversary, we learn the story of Porsche’s first race at Le Mans in 1951 and how it won overall 19 years later in 1970. The experts in their fields tell the story. Rod Emory of Emory Motorsports speaks about the 356 SL, which gave Porsche its first class win at the race in 1951. Cam Ingram of Road Scholars picks up where Emory left off, telling the story of Porsche’s race activities from 1951 through 1967. And finally, Revs Institute founder Miles Collier and legendary Porsche Factory Driver Brian Redman take us through 1970, detailing the golden era of Porsche prototype racing and its first win with the semi-privateer Porsche Salzburg team’s 917K. Grab the popcorn and a drink for this nearly hour-long feature.
