1960 Austin Healey 3000 – Spectacular Restoration
DETAILS AND STORY
This 1960 BN7 Mark I is one of 2,825 two-seaters Austin Healey manufactured between 1959 and 1961. The “big Healey” 3000 series models are exceptionally hard to come by and with a history such as this car, they’re simply unheard of.
The owners decided to start their own restoration on the car in their garage in Oxnard, California back in 1976. But that was before life got in the way. A year later, children came along and that brought the notion of free time to a halt. Before anyone knew it, almost four decades had passed. Children had children of their own and the big Healey watched as time flew by.
Kurt Tanner, a renowned Austin Healey restorer and curator came across this car, still sitting in the same Oxnard garage five years ago. He bought the car immediately.
The body was straight, accident free, rust free, and in fantastic overall condition because of the dry California climate. The parts were complete, sorted, and – amazingly – all there. These were not cheap reproduction parts or junk but nice original pieces. Kurt’s restorations are well known for being top tier and setting world records when auctioned. This car was his last restoration and one of our very particular collectors picked up up. Refinished down to the most minute detail and finished in its original color combination, this matching numbers 3000 comes with its Heritage certificate. Tanner provided complete photo documentation of his restoration. The car has had less 10 miles since restoration and we put 3 to 4 of those on it to make sure its sorted. Wow! Were we surprised! Kurt’s reputation is well earned and this car is proof of the quality of his product. If you start with a great car and you have one of the best 3000 restorers do it, you do end up with the best available.
