This is the car that started all the madness! We originally purchased this 1972 911 back in 2004 from a broker who had just acquired it from its original owner, Ken Merkle. Ken had ordered it from Wood Imports in Detroit, Michigan, after his 912 turned up missing (read: stolen) one evening. Ken enjoyed this 911, and in the early days of his ownership he went on road trips with other Porsche buddies to Toronto and Chicago.

But time passes. People move, and life goes on. And the memory of a previous car’s disappearance can make it harder to enjoy its replacement. That’s what happened to Ken, life moved on and it got more and more difficult to pull this T out every spring and enjoy it. During the first few years he drove it fairly regularly and by November of 1975, it had accumulated almost 20,000 miles before going into its winter slumber.

Fast forward 29 years. We bought this car (in 2004) with only 35,000 miles on it. Ken had owned it for 33 years before he finally let it go. When we got it, we knew a major service was due from years of sitting. We pulled the engine out and performed a re-seal along with the chain tensioners update. The original paint still was excellent. The interior was all original and it showed only minor wear for its age. We held on to it for many years, driving it occasionally and just plain enjoying it until the persistent hounding from a good friend pried it loose from us in 2011.

We sold the car to Gary under the condition that if he ever decided to sell it we got “First Shot.” And as we expected, he did. Gary is a car nut. He can always find something to tweak, and he did on this T as well. Through-the-grille fog lights and Coco mats were the first orders he placed. We have just finished servicing our “T” and added new, period correct Perelli CN36’s to this ultimate original 911. This is the 1972 that was on the cover of Classic Porsche magazine in May/June of 2014 and the magazine featured the car on its inside pages.
