For the model year 1978, Porsche narrowed the 911 model lineup to just two models- the 911SC and the Turbo. The 911 SC replaced the 911 and Carrera models, and the new moniker was an amalgamation of the “Super” designation of the 911S and “Carrera” of the 3.0 Carrera. The 911 SC was built with the 3.0 Carrera body with the widened fenders to accommodate 205/55 or 225/50 tires on the 15″ Fuchs wheels. The chrome door handles and window trims of the previous 911 models were replaced by black anodized trim as was utilized in the Carrera models, and both the chrome headlight surrounds and side-view mirrors were matched to the body color.

Porsche constructed six different versions of the 911 SC’s 3.0-liter flat-six to comply with the different emissions regulations in each country they were to be exported to, but nevertheless, each was capable of producing a minimum of 180 horsepower. Horsepower continually rose with subsequent model years and by 1981 the 911 SC’s power output was increased to 204 horsepower through adjustments to the engine’s compression and timing.

Through these changes the 911 SC offered improved handling, power, and a balance of modern and vintage aesthetics, while still staying true to the 911s pure driving experience.

Back in our inventory is this 911 SC that has been modified to offer the best balance between driveability and performance whether on-road or on the racetrack. The 3.0-liter SC engine was built to 3.2-liter specs in 2013 by Jim Newton of Automobile Associates of Canton in Connecticut and recently underwent a major service in our service workshop. Recaro Profi SPG XL seats, a DAS Sport four-point bolt-in roll cage are currently in place of the original seats (which are included with the car), while a wood-rimmed Momo Indy steering wheel, Rennline aluminum floorboards, and drilled, dimple die aluminum pedals complete the functional sport-purpose feel of the interior. An upgraded air conditioning system keeps the cabin cool in the summer months, adding to this 911’s usability year-round. The exterior was repainted its original color of Black Metallic (708) while having its upgrades performed nearly a decade ago and still shows beautifully, especially in the sunlight.
