Once each year, on the third Sunday in August, nearly 200 of the most prized collector cars and motorcycles in the world roll onto what is often called “the best finishing hole in golf” — the famed eighteenth fairway at Pebble Beach. Tire meets turf and transformation occurs: the stage is set for one of the most competitive events in the automotive world. The occasion is the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The Concours is not a contest of speed, but of excellence. Automobiles and motorcycles are judged for their historical accuracy, their technical merit and style. The best of the best garner reward and recognition on the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance website.
Road Scholars was fortunate to earn a Third in Class award in the special Porsche 911 Class at the Pebble Beach Concours this year. We had sold the 1975 Porsche Turbo to the Ingram collection a few years prior, and were asked to prepare the car for this important event. Preparing the 1975 Turbo was an exercise in preservation. We paid special attention to not erase any original details or finishes throughout the 911. We were up against a very tough class of significant Porsche 911’s. Both first and second place Porsches were very rare examples of the 911 model (oldest 901 and 1973 911RS). Bob Ingram was thrilled with his third place trophy and it’s safe to say that it will be a long time before we see Porsche 911′s on the lawn in a dedicated class.
This is the second time Road Scholars has shown at Pebble Beach. The first was in 2011 with the 1950 Gmund Coupe, a car the company restored for Hans Peter Porsche and for which we took home a First in Class trophy.
